Design and Construction of the Brașov – Târgu Mureș – Cluj – Oradea Motorway, Section 3B: Mihăiești – Suplacu de Barcău (Including the Meseș Tunnel)
The project is located in Sălaj County, in the northwestern part of Romania, within the Transylvania region. As part of the A3 Motorway (Brașov – Târgu Mureș – Cluj – Oradea), it represents a critical segment of the strategic transport corridor connecting Bucharest with the Transylvania region.
The contract includes an 18-month design pase, followed by a 60-month construction period. The works encompass a total of 41 kilometers of dual carriageway motorway (2x2-lanes), divided into two subsections: Poarta Sălajului – Zalău, which spans 15.14 kilometers and includes the Meseș Tunnel, and Zalău – Nușfalău, which extends 25.86 kilometers.
A major component of the project is the construction of a 2.89-kilometer twin-tube tunnel, which will be the longest motorway tunnel in Romania. In addition to tunnel works, the project involves the construction of 14 viaducts, 21 bridges, and 7 overpasses, with a total combined structure length exceeding 7,980 meters.
The scope further includes the development of two motorway service areas, a Maintenance and Operations Center, and a Tunnel Monitoring and Intervention Facility. The project also comprises comprehensive geotechnical and hydrotechnical works, including foundation strengthening and ground improvement.
