Berkman (Lower Ceyhan) Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant

The 39 MW Berkman Dam and its Hydroelectric Power Plant, referred to as Lower Ceyhan, are located on the Ceyhan River in the southern part of Türkiye. The dam has a crest length of 345 meters across the Ceyhan river valley with a structural height of 27 meters. This is the second phase of a power station completed in the cascade development of two infrastructure projects by the joint venture between Özaltın Construction Company and Nurol Construction Company, and led by the former.

The contractual deliverables included a composite dam, which comprises a combination of an earth embankment having an impervious clay-core with a fill volume of 300,000 m³ at the right bank of the river, and a 241,000 m³ concrete section that includes an overflow spillway, frontal water intake, and a powerhouse at the left bank of the river.

In-scope also was the construction of a semi-outdoor power plant, and the installation of three (3) pit-type horizontal axis Kaplan turbine-generator units, for a total installed power capacity of 39 MW. In addition, the project included the construction and the erection of a 154-kV switchyard to transfer the generated power to the electricity transmission network. The project began in 2007, and full commissioning of all units was achieved in 2010.
